Wine

Vineyards, grapes and the places that shape a glass

Wine is agriculture made legible. Because a grape variety can be grown in many places, and a place can be compared with itself year after year, wine became the food through which people first learned to talk about terroir — soil, slope, climate and human tradition together.

This atlas begins in Burgundy, where that idea was refined plot by plot, and follows its grapes outward. Every region page carries an orientation plate drawn from public geographic data: we mark towns and areas, and we never draw appellation boundaries we cannot source.
