Gaglioppo
Gaglioppo is a Calabrian red grape associated particularly with Cirò. The nursery profile does not establish its historical origin.
The fruit in the vineyard
Rauscedo describes medium-to-large compact bunches, often with a wing, and round berries with dark skins showing reddish reflections. The vine is vigorous and productive, with medium-late ripening. Its skin appearance is not a reliable way to authenticate a vineyard variety on its own.
Wine in its regional setting
The technical account describes its use alongside other local grapes in its traditional area. The wine is characterised as ruby-red and moderately tannic, with potential to improve during ageing. This general account does not supply the current blend percentages for Cirò’s different legal wine categories.
