Trousseau
A Jura black grape, probably a descendant of Savagnin, that also grows in Portugal as Bastardo and in Spain as Merenzao. In Arbois it gives warmer, more tannic and more coloured reds than Poulsard.

From the Jura to Iberia
Pl@ntGrape says Trousseau comes from the Jura and is probably a descendant of Savagnin. VIVC records the pedigree as an unknown parent × Savagnin, confirmed by markers. The EU recognises its Iberian names: Bastardo in Portugal and Cyprus, Merenzao in Spain.
In Arbois it gives more tannic, often more coloured wines than Poulsard, frequently with animal notes. It accumulates sugar easily and gives warm, full-bodied wines, though the colour is light if yields are high. French plantings stood at 166 ha in 1958, 76 ha in 1979 and 177 ha in 2018.
