Mauzac

A white grape apparently originating near Gaillac. It can produce sparkling, dry or sweet wine, with apple and sometimes pear in its aromatic profile.

Location: France

Origins and the vine

The catalogue describes moderate vigour and short-pruning suitability, with good results on limestone or clay-limestone soils. It lists several pest and disease sensitivities, including grey rot, while noting lower susceptibility to powdery and downy mildew.

From grape to wine

At full ripeness, Mauzac can accumulate substantial alcohol potential while acidity falls quickly. The sheet also notes oxidation sensitivity and occasional bitterness. These characteristics make harvest timing and intended wine style relevant; the catalogue’s multiple uses do not imply a single standard Mauzac wine.
