Marzemino

Marzemino is a red grape associated with Trentino and neighbouring parts of northern Italy. The nursery leaves its precise origin uncertain and cautions that the name has been applied to differing material elsewhere.

The Trentino description

Rauscedo describes three-lobed leaves with an uneven blade and medium-long bunches with two short wings. The berries are round, blue-black and waxy. The vine is vigorous, making the balance of foliage and fruit important.

Wine and growing conditions

The technical account describes substantial dry red wines with fruity aromas and some tannin, including examples suited to ageing. It also highlights sensitivity to powdery mildew and sour rot. Dry, ventilated conditions are therefore relevant to the vineyard description, rather than merely scenic background.
