Montepulciano

Montepulciano is a red grape associated with Abruzzo and the Adriatic side of Italy. It must be distinguished from the Tuscan place name in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, whose local Prugnolo gentile is Sangiovese.

The grape rather than the town

Rauscedo describes late budbreak, medium-late ripening and medium bunches with oval purple-black berries. The berries have firm waxy skins. Its account favours deep, moderately clay-limestone soils and sufficient warmth for reliable ripening.

Red and rosé wines

The nursery’s wine description includes substantial, tannic reds with fruity character. It also records rosé production through a different vinification approach. Neither the grape name nor the colour of its berries determines the finished wine’s sweetness, ageing method or legal designation.
