Dolcetto
Dolcetto is a Piedmontese red grape associated with the hills around Acqui. Its relatively early ripening distinguishes it from late-ripening Nebbiolo.
Berries that detach easily
The nursery describes medium round blue berries with a waxy bloom and thin skins. They detach readily, particularly under some dry-soil conditions at maturity. The medium-to-large, winged bunches vary in compactness, and balanced cropping is important for the resulting wine.
The wine rather than the name
Rauscedo describes ruby-red wines with moderate acidity and a characteristic pleasantly bitter finish. Its description includes wines that develop with short ageing. The grape’s name alone is not evidence of residual sugar or a sweet finished wine.
