Schioppettino
Schioppettino is a Friulian red grape also documented as Ribolla nera. The regional consortium associates it particularly with Prepotto and describes a distinctive spicy wine character.
Names and the reference accession
The Italian Vitis Database confirms Ribolla nera as a synonym. Its R#1199 accession has blue-black berries with a strong waxy bloom and thick skins, together with a five-lobed leaf. Accession observations describe documented material rather than every vine grown under a local name.
Fruit and spice
The consortium’s wine description combines dark berries, raspberry and blueberry with green-pepper spice. It leaves the origin of the name uncertain and offers more than one explanation. Those explanations should remain possibilities rather than a settled historical account.
