Syrah

The great black grape of the northern Rhône, called Shiraz in Australia. Same variety, two names.

Syrah or Shiraz?

Both names denote the same variety. DNA analysis traced Syrah to a cross of Dureza (from the Ardèche) and Mondeuse Blanche (from Savoie), disproving the romantic legend that it came from the Persian city of Shiraz.
