Glera

Glera is a white grape associated with north-eastern Italian sparkling wines. A grape identity and a wine’s protected geographical name are different kinds of information.

The vine and the fruit

Pl@ntGrape describes a vigorous vine with drooping growth, generally trained with long pruning. Its early budbreak increases exposure to spring frost, while drought can also cause difficulty. The bunches are medium-to-large and relatively loose, with round berries and thin skins.

Sparkling and still wine

The technical account describes sparkling wines with acidity and restrained alcohol, alongside light dry still whites. Those tendencies do not define a legal Prosecco specification or an exact permitted blend. Nursery descriptions of biotypes likewise should not be converted into additional variety counts without identity evidence.
