Carricante

Carricante is a Sicilian white grape particularly associated with the slopes of Etna. The research database describes productive vines and white wines with substantial acidity.

Biotypes within the variety

The Italian Vitis Database distinguishes documented A and B biotypes, including differences in bunch size and compactness. It links cultivation closely to Etna and describes both traditional bush vines and trained systems. A single generic bunch should not be presented as proving the identity of every accession.

Acidity and wine

The account describes white wines with floral and citrus notes, acidity and structure. Some material is suitable for bottle ageing or blending. Although the sheet discusses possible genetic origins, its parent fields remain unavailable; this entry does not turn the historical discussion into a settled pedigree.
