Wine · Grape variety · Short entry
Verdicchio
Verdicchio is a white grape closely associated with the Marche. Rauscedo also identifies the name Trebbiano di Soave with this variety, illustrating why a Trebbiano name alone is insufficient identification.
The leaf and the bunch
The nursery describes three- or five-lobed leaves, compact to moderately compact conical bunches and round green-yellow berries. Bunches may have a wing. Good exposure and air movement help the crop ripen in suitable condition.
Acidity and a bitter finish
The technical description combines acidity and structure with a delicate aroma and a pleasantly bitter finish. It allows for development with some ageing. The sheet’s ancient-Roman narrative is not adopted here as a demonstrated identification of the modern cultivar in antiquity.
