Wine · Grape variety · Short entry
Marsanne
A white grape originating in the northern Rhône. It can produce dry or sparkling wines with moderate to low acidity and restrained aromatic expression.
Origins and the vine
The catalogue describes a vigorous, fertile and productive vine suited to short pruning and relatively lean, stony sites. Its long shoots require good support. It also characterises Marsanne as relatively hardy with a short growth cycle and later budding within the collection reference.
From grape to wine
Large bunches carry smaller berries that can become golden or russet when ripe. The sheet associates its wines with moderate or low acidity and sometimes a bitter or firm finish. These descriptions explain why crop control matters; a named grape alone does not guarantee balance or ageing performance.
