Ansonica

Ansonica is a white grape known in Sicily as Inzolia or Insolia. The regional names belong in one entry rather than being used to create duplicate variety counts.

Names and differing material

The Italian Vitis Database recognises Inzolia and Insolia as official synonyms. It also cautions that historical Inzolia names included other material, including forms that should not automatically be treated as white-Ansonica mutations. The exact accession matters when identifying an image.

Wine and the berry

Rauscedo describes large elliptical golden berries with thick waxy skins, on large winged bunches. The sources cover Marsala uses and still whites, including blends. The database also records dried-grape wine in the Tuscan islands and coastal areas; one regional use does not define the whole variety.
