Bourboulenc

A white grape probably originating in Provence. Its slow ripening and suitability for drought-prone conditions distinguish it from earlier white varieties.

Origins and the vine

Pl@ntGrape describes moderate fertility and a semi-drooping growth habit requiring support. Short pruning is recommended. The variety tolerates drought but needs warmth and good exposure to reach maturity; drought adaptation should not be confused with a guarantee of ripening in every dry site.

From grape to wine

Large bunches and medium berries can give relatively low-alcohol wines with moderate aromatic intensity. The sheet reports susceptibility to powdery mildew but comparatively good grey-rot resistance. No complete body, acidity or tannin meter is added without a supporting statement.
