Macabeo
Macabeo is a white grape also known as Macabeu and Viura. Rauscedo records its cultivation in Spain and southern France.
Identity and growing conditions
The nursery describes a large, deeply five-lobed leaf with a lyre-shaped petiolar sinus. Large, compact bunches bear medium round berries with thin skins. Excessive cropping can affect wine quality.
Wine styles and uses
Its uses include young whites, sparkling base wines and barrel-matured wines. The range of uses means that the grape name does not imply a single sweetness or maturation method; local appellation rules require separate checking.
