Roussanne

A northern Rhône white grape with small berries that become russet at full maturity. Its documented wine potential combines aromatic complexity, power and an acidity balance suited to ageing.

Origins and the vine

Pl@ntGrape locates its origin in the northern Rhône and describes long shoots needing careful training. Lean, stony clay-limestone sites with good exposure are identified as suitable. Powdery mildew, grey rot, mites and thrips are noted among its vulnerabilities.

From grape to wine

The catalogue lists honey, hawthorn and apricot among its aromatic expressions and describes powerful wines capable of ageing. It reports an acidity balance rather than an exact acid concentration. Roussanne is retained as its own variety; a shared regional association with Marsanne does not make the two synonymous.
