Cortese

Cortese is a Piedmontese white grape associated particularly with Gavi and the hills around Alessandria and Tortona. The nursery describes a vigorous vine capable of regular crops.

The vine and the fruit

Rauscedo describes large five-lobed leaves, pyramidal winged bunches and rounded yellow berries that can become golden. The berries detach relatively easily. Fragile young shoots and skins explain some of the handling and canopy-management cautions in its account.

Still and sparkling wine

Its wine description is dry and lively, with moderate alcohol and a characteristic aroma. The profile also records suitability for sparkling wine. Site and harvest decisions matter, so the grape should not be assigned one fixed sweetness, acidity or alcohol value across all its uses.
