Refosco dal peduncolo rosso

Refosco dal peduncolo rosso is a red grape associated with Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The full name matters when identifying material described more loosely as Refosco.

The red bunch stalk

Rauscedo describes a long pyramidal, winged bunch with a wine-red peduncle, which gives a useful visual feature for the illustration brief. Berries tend towards an elliptical shape and blue-black colour. Large three-lobed leaves have an open V-shaped petiole sinus.

Ripening the crop

The nursery describes early budbreak and late ripening. Vigorous growth on fresh, fertile ground can hinder full maturity, making exposure and canopy management important. Its general wine description is tannic and fruity with a slight herbal character; a short period of ageing can change the expression.
