Wine · Grape variety · Short entry
Catarratto
Catarratto is a Sicilian white grape represented by Comune and Lucido forms. This atlas counts one variety while retaining the distinction between the two registered names.
Two names, one variety account
The Italian Vitis Database brings national catalogue codes 58 and 59 together and describes Comune and Lucido as biotypes with a shared microsatellite profile. Their visible and productive differences still matter. Carricante is explicitly listed as an erroneous name rather than accepted as a synonym.
Describe the selected material
Rauscedo’s Comune account has medium winged bunches and round-to-elliptical berries with thick waxy skins. It describes dry wines with body and acidity. An illustration should identify which form it represents, and should not transfer all Comune traits to Lucido without checking documented material.
