Lagrein

Lagrein is a red grape strongly associated with Bolzano and the warmer sites of Alto Adige. It is used for red wines and for rosé known as Lagrein Kretzer or Lagrein Rosato.

A documented catalogue identity

The Italian Vitis Database identifies it as Vitis vinifera and lists Schiava gentile and Teroldego as its parents. That is the catalogue’s attribution; the named Schiava gentile must not be silently replaced by another member of the Schiava group.

Red wine and Kretzer

The regional wine body describes full-bodied red wines with berry, cherry, violet and spicy notes, alongside the rosé style. It favours warm lower sites with sand, gravel or porphyry-derived soils. These are regional descriptions, not a promise of identical flavour from every vineyard.
